World Media Rights - unreliable payers.

UPDATE 5th December 2023

Freelancers should now be very cautious indeed about embarking on any kind of working relationship with this company as it is currently not paying its bills. When asked if the company was still solvent, CEO Alan Griffiths refused to respond. Given that, and the history of how it has treated freelancers, a wide berth around this company is recommended!

Freelancers should be aware of a company which has somewhat of a bad habit of failing to pay invoices on time and in full.

The company is World Media Rights and is run by Alan Griffiths (Head of Production is Val Campbell). It has a history of such behaviour and it appears they are at it again as a number of people are now late in being paid for their recent work and are not getting any answers from the company about where their money is. The current production at issue is The Lost Women Spies, made for ZDF Studios.

Given this, freelancers should be wary of taking any work with this organisation in the future unless they give a definitive date for payment. If that date then passes without money arriving in your bank, contact them immediately and keep contacting them unless and until they pay what they owe.

If the payment should become 30 days late (or later than the date agreed in writing), you are entitled (and should) charge a late payment fee and interest.

It may be the only way to get this company to behave professionally, because it is well overdue. And if anyone else is having issues with getting paid for the work they have done for World Media Rights, please do get in touch.

World Media Rights: Freelancers Beware!

UPDATE 8th December 2024. Freelancers should be warned that, if this company fails to pay your invoice, do not hesitate to take them to court via a legal claim. In the experience of one freelancer, this was the only way to get this bunch to pay up what they owed (which, satisfyingly, they were forced to do and required to pay the court costs too). If anyone finds themselves in this position, do feel free to get in touch for advice and support.
