The team is currently working on the next generation of News products. As a member you will be developing exciting new features and improving existing projects across mobile, tablet and desktop.

We’re based at Oxford Circus in the centre of London. [Broadcasting House] (http://www.bbc.co.uk/broadcastinghouse/) is a brand new building which provides a great working environment and houses the largest News Room in Europe. You will be working right next to journalists giving you direct feedback from users.
We love new technology and modern development tools. Our current favourites are: Github, Grunt, RequireJS, PhantomJS, Vagrant, Sass and Cucumber.
We take your personal development really seriously. BBC Academy offer a wide range of courses and we encourage you to try something new, from IOS development to Presentation skills. Everyone is also encouraged to attend and speak at tech conferences and spread knowledge to the wider industry.

Role Responsibility
We are looking for talented and influential developers to join our team and create amazing products as well as influence one of the World’s largest sites.
You will work alongside other developers and be responsible for writing world class code, working in a multi-disciplinary team with Product owners, designers, architects and testers.

The Ideal Candidate
It’s essential you have:Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.Fluency in two or more of: PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, Perl. (PHP and Ruby as priorities).Ability to write quality OO code and have experience with MVC frameworks.Excellent front-end web development skills:HTML5. Semantic markup patterns for flexible reuse.CSS / SCSS. Good understanding of modern techniques such as Responsive Web Design and graceful degradation for older browsers.JAVASCRIPT. Excellent JavaScript programming skills, with knowledge of developing large, modular applications.Experience of TDD – both for PHP/Ruby/Java etc. AND Javascript.BDD / automated Acceptance Tests with Ruby (Cucumber and / or Rspec) or PHP (Behat).Experience of building high performance websites.Understanding of Service Oriented Architectures and consuming RESTful web services via HTTP.Experience of Agile Programming, pairing and working within a collaborative team.Experience in Version control systems (Subversion, Git).A big plus would be:Healthy interest in emerging platform level technologies – queues, stores, caches etc.A level of familiarity with AWS or similar Cloud Infrastructure and associated tooling.Experience with Vagrant / Packer / Docker and Virtualisation Technology.Understanding of CI, experience with using a CI system (Hudson, Jenkins).Knowledge of strategies to improve performance (HTTP caching, language best practices).An interest in emerging / returning programming paradigms, such as FP.An Enthusiasm for Digital News is a plus.A level of comfort with the “Hacker Ethic”.
