Hi All,

Applied for a job as DOP recently and recieved an email asking me to visit this site

http://www.carthorseproductions.com/

So the offer was I could bid for a position on the feature film. The person who pays the most gets the job, role as actor and a credit as Ass Producer. Can you believe this. It really REALLY is the lowest I have come across. You can also Bid for your acting role. As you may notice on the front page is some crap against protecting actors.

Quote:
We are inviting key personnel from the film industry, like you, to take part in a unique fundraising opporunity to become associate producers and invest in the movie project by bidding for your respective profession.

They probably think they are clever.

Very very scary. I wish them well.

This is hysterical RemarkableApe. They even have T&Cs, none of which suggest you must be qualified to perform the role you are bidding for.

Far be it for me to suggest that people on this site might like to bid for jobs and roles for which they are wholly unqualified. Imagine if these people do actually turn up for the shoot. A bank manager as a DOP and bus driver doing make up perhaps - along with all those amateurs cast only for how much money they provided. What an absolute fucking shambles of a nightmare...

Oh yeah, could anyone please explain once and for all the purpose behind existence of Protecting Actors and any possible relevance of it to the National Minimum Wage Act?

Heh - the sum total of the ambition of 'Protecting Actors' is to make sure they get a copy of the DVD

Big fucking deal. Here are their T&Cs, in full ...

Terms
When casting a film, commerical, tv show or any production in which video footage will be taken, The Company agree to provide all Cast Actors with a free DVD copy of The Final Footage.

The Company agree that at least 30 seconds of The Final Footage may be used by Cast Actors in their showreel at no charge.

The company agree to provide a DVD copy of The Final Footage to all Cast Actors within 6 months of the end of the project.

So, not bothered about actors being paid then?

Protecting Actors is the brainchild of Blue Compass, the same company behind Film jobs pro - you know the one that's also full of unpaid jobs. Its more than ironic that they are more concerned about you not receiving a DVD than they are about the NMW.

Wow a new way to make films- looks like it for a dumb wit with loads of money beats the talent and experienced. This is a get out of clause for the NMW.

One become the investor, I wonder what FSA has to say about this?

I have just been informed of this forum and thought i should try and explain the reasons behind the funding idea.

Due to the current financial situation Carthorse Productions came up with the idea to fund thier latest project by inviting cast and crew to 'invest' in the movie, although we recieved a number of e mails in favour of the idea we have since been informed of possible wage infringments that could result in being below the minimum wage criteria.

Putting to one side for a moment what has been said in eariler postings in this forum, we do respect and fully support actors and crew pay and subsequently have decided not to continue with the planned funding route, instead we shall endeavour to raise capital in a more conventional manner.

We apologise wholeheartedly for any missunderstandings or fustration caused and hope that future projects will be recieved in a more positive light.

Thank you for your time

Melvyn Phillimore
Director
Carthorse Productions Ltd
