Micmacs. Fantastic.
I do love Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Circus Skills, eh?

I went to see it. The Finn gave it a 0/10 and her Tweeometer exploded. They don't really do whimsy in the frozen north either. Apparently whimsy 'Gets people frozen to death.' And 'if you want to fuck about like an idiot, go to Sweden'.

I thought it was deeply deeply flawed and not half as satisfying as it could have been. It felt like an old folks home for circus performers. The cinegraphic gimmicks didn't work. The little homages were pretentious and the little clues to make you feel oh-so-clever felft crassly shoe-horned in. Bad.

Maybe my personal taste has changed with age but I loved Delicatessen and thought Amelie was only a little bit shit in parts.

My experience of the film was ruined however by choosing to watch it at The barbican. where some flighty French tart sat next to me and laughed REALLY loudly throughout in the manner of an English teacher at a school production of Shakespeare. you know the sort of thing laughing before the jokes in order to obtain some sort of ownership. then laughing too hard. And especially at the clowning. Just awful. and you know she was faking because she forgot to do it in the second half of the film. Cheese eating cunt. The Finn leaned over me and gave her a low level glare at one point, even in the dark this is a fearsome sight and she uite rightly piped down. Film ruining cunt.

I laughed out loud twice I suppose, and I know a lot of morons think that ALL French film making is beyond reproach but fuck me it was shit. Empty vacuous beautifully shot in parts shit. Bu hang on, isn't the whole Beautiful Shot thing his trademark? Well not enough of it by half. he tried hard in parts but it failed. I think the whole thing would have been twice as good with a massive re-edit to zip the pace along. That would have sucked some of the pompous french shruggery out of it.

Oh and the bendy chick was too old to play that role and made me cringe every time she was on. Just awful.

Beast Says: Shit-Macs. 2/10

So, you won't be buying the DVD then?
